Watton-at-Stone Tennis Club
The Tennis Club was formed in the late 1970s and at that time was unique in its league by not having its own courts. Therefore, private courts at Crowbury and Heath Mount School were used.
This continued to be the case until 2 floodlit Tennis Courts were established on the Multi-Purpose Play Area (MPPA), which was constructed on the Sports Field in 1984 by the Parish Council.
As the club grew a member’s private court still had to be used for home games in the Datchworth Spring League due to the number of teams we were able to field. The third Tennis Court was opened in 2017 and this enabled all 3 home teams in the Datchworth Spring League to play at the sports field in Watton-at-Stone (often referred to as The Meadow) together, and for the first time we were able to add a Junior Girls and Boys Section to the Annual Club Tournament along with the Senior Boys and Girls and Adult Competitions.
In addition to holding an annual Tournament, the club participates in the following competitive leagues:
- Datchworth Spring League
- Datchworth Autumn League
- Herts Ladies Vets Winter League
- East Herts Winter Mixed League
- Hot Rackets Summer Mens Doubles League
- Hot Rackets Summer Ladies Doubles League
The club has a strong junior section and an established coaching- programme for all age groups. Junior coaching is on Wednesdays and Thursdays with adult coaching on Mondays and by arrangement with the Club Coach, Ian Vosper, who can be contacted on 01920 830794 or 07960 519373.
The social tennis Club Night is held on a Thursday at 1930. All Club Members are welcome and it is a good session to come along to if you are interested in joining the club.
The Tennis Club is affiliated to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).
