Methodist Church
The Methodist Church and Day Retreat Centre is situated in the heart of the High Street.
The Chapel was built on a plot of land that was purchased for £130 in 1890 and the first service took place there on 14th October 1891. Happily the church has celebrated over 125 years of Christian Witness to our Local Community.
Today it is an active church and there is always a warm and friendly welcome to our Sunday services and groups.
A community Meditation Garden is located on one side of the church and offers a quiet space of sanctuary for those in need of some peace.
The Church building is not used for just 1 hour a week on Sunday; it is at the very heart of the community and as such is used for:
- Tea & Toys (for the under 4s)
- A Lunch club
- A Card-Making group
- A Craft Club
- An Art Class
- A Knit and Knatter group
Various other regular and one-off activities include socials, teas and children’s parties. Some of these activities are church-related whereas others are for the community. Underpinning everything is worship and prayer.
We are a welcoming church and invite you to get in touch. Please feel free to contact any member of the Pastoral team, about Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals.
- Our Lay Pastor and Local Preacher is Mr John Ellis, who can be contacted on 01920 830623 or via email at john_l_ellis @yahoo.co.uk.
- Our Minister with Pastoral Charge is the Reverend Rev Debbie Hodgson, who can be contacted on 01992 462881.
Sunday Worship
Sunday services are held at 10.45am each week and children are very welcome.
Holy Communion is celebrated monthly.
We enjoy a fairly free and informal approach to worship, but we aim to offer worship that is dignified and which is characterised by a sense of joy and thankfulness.
Sometimes, the Minister of our Church, Lay Pastor or another Minister from our group of churches will lead worship. At other times, a Lay Preacher or Accredited Worship Leader will be the leader. Other members of the congregation take part in various ways and all are encouraged to use their gifts for the glory of God.
Day Retreat Centre
The church and hall have recently been refurbished to provide for day groups of up to 50 people to run self-led retreats, quiet days and meetings. The church has modern comfortable, flexible seating and benefits from an audio visual system, power point/data projector and microphones. The associated hall is ideal for meals and break-out areas and has a fully equipped kitchen.
